Spicy Garlic and Basil Noodles

I’m always on the lookout for new, quick recipes for when I’m in a hurry, or simply when I lack of motivation to cook. These garlic and basil noodles takes under 20 minutes to prepare and offers maximum flavours and satisfaction!

This recipe is for 1 person, but can easily be doubled or quadrupled!

Spicy Garlic and Basil Noodles
Ingredients

Garlic Noodles

  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) coarsely chopped fresh basil
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) hoisin sauce
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) chili crisp
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 100 g rice noodles
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) cooking water
  • Hard-boiled eggs (optional)

Preparation

Garlic Noodles

  • Place garlic, ginger, brown sugar and basil in a bowl.
  • In a small frying pan, heat sesame oil and vegetable oil over high heat for 2 minutes, or until hot. Pour the oil into the bowl and stir well. This step is designed to lightly cook the garlic and ginger and release the flavours!
  • Add soy sauce, hoisin sauce, chili crisp and salt and stir again.
  • Cook noodles in boiling salted water according to package instructions. Remove 2 tbsp (30 ml) of cooking water and drain pasta. Rinse lightly and place in bowl with cooking water. Toss until pasta is well coated with sauce. Serve with hard-boiled eggs if desired!
