Caramelized Onions and Pear Crostinis
Wow… I think this crostini recipe will be on my table several times during the holiday season! They’re simply divine. The combination of cream cheese, caramelized onions and pear is straight out of heaven!

Ingredients
Croutons
- 1 baguette, cut into 1.5 cm slices
- Olive oil
- Salt
Caramelized onions
- 3 tablespoons (45 ml) vegetable oil
- 2 yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) salt
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) 5-spice powder
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) honey
Assembly
- 2 pears, thinly sliced
- 1 cup (240 g) dairy-free cream cheese
- 1/3 cup (40 g) chopped pecans
- Balsamic reduction

Preparation
Croutons
- Preheat oven to 375°F and place rack in center. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the bread slices on the sheet.
- Pour a little olive oil over the bread slices. Lightly salt. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes.
Caramelized Onions
- In a nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium heat and cook onions with salt for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring often.
- Add the 5 spices and balsamic vinegar and continue cooking for 5 minutes. Add the honey and stir well.
Assembly
- Spread the croutons with cream cheese, place two slices of pear, a little caramelized onion and pecans. Serve with a little balsamic reduction.
