My kitchen musts!

1- A good knife: I can’t stress this enough: investing in a quality all-purpose knife is probably the best gift you can give yourself if you cook often.

Here’s a link to the one I use. And don’t forget to keep it sharp enough! A razor-sharp knife requires less force to handle, which makes it much more efficient and precise!

2- A good cutting board: It may sound surprising, but if you’ve ever had to work with an unstable or slightly crooked cutting board, you know how unpleasant it can be! I really like Epicurean boards.

3- A high-powered blender: My Vitamix is probably the tool I use most often in my kitchen. When cooking dairy-free, you have to find ways to create satisfying and fun textures! Whether I’m making creamy pasta sauces, smooth soups, smoothies, pancake mixes, whipped tofu or even salad dressings, I’ll never be able to do without it again!

4- A blender foot: In the same vein, a blender foot is very practical when you want to make sauces in smaller quantities, like pesto or a little mayo to accompany croquettes, for example!

5- A garlic press: I’m one of those people who hates cutting garlic by hand! Why make life so complicated when it’s so easy with this little tool?

6- A mandolin: I’ve been using my mandolin regularly for some time now. I find that it allows me to get a really nice, delicate cut, quickly. Watch your fingers, though!

7- Fun ice cube molds: I like to have all kinds of ice cubes in my freezer so I’m ready when I’m entertaining, or if I feel like concocting myself a little cocktail on Thursday night! I choose silicone ones, as they’re easier to unmold.

8- A cast-iron skillet : Cast-iron skillets ensure even cooking and help create a beautiful golden, crispy crust on ingredients! That’s why I always prioritize my cast-iron skillet for cooking vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage and peppers. I also love to sear my chicken in it before sending it to the oven for the rest of the cooking time, as it gives it a really appetizing grilled look.

9- A quality stewpot: A must in my kitchen. I cook… almost everything! Stir-fries, curries, pasta dishes, you name it! I love mine, and I’ll leave you the link right here. And it’s discounted!

10- Several paring knives: It’s always handy to have a few in your drawer. We use them so often!

11- A digital kitchen scale: I don’t use this tool as often as the others, but it’s definitely worth having if, like me, you ever want to start making focaccia! Also, some cooking sites, such as the French ones, use mass (in grams) as the unit of measurement. So having a scale at hand will make life a lot easier if you ever feel like trying out a recipe from our French cousins!

12- Little tongs: A kitchen essential! You know how much I like my plates to look neat and tidy! These little tongs, which look a bit like long eyebrow tweezers, will help you be more precise during the presentation stage.

13- A wide variety of Mason jars: I think I own every size Mason jar there is! They’re a must for storing all the little extras in my recipes: vinaigrettes, toasted croutons, roasted nuts, spice blends, leftover sauces, spicy mayo, etc!

14- A juicer: As you’ve probably noticed, I use a lot of lemon and lime juice in my recipes! It adds a fresh, tangy edge that I love. So a double juicer is super handy to make sure you don’t lose a single drop of juice!

15- A microplane: Same thing here, but for the zest! I’m a VERY big fan of zest, so I have to control myself not to use it in all my recipes!
